More and more customers today expect to be able to communicate with businesses via SMS fully - it is not enough to receive an SMS message they also want to reply with questions and comments.
SMS is also a great way to ask for immediate responses to questions, such as, "Are you available tomorrow for the morning shift?"
If you are sending SMS Marketing messages then it is also important that recipients can reply in order to Opt-Out of subsequent campaigns. For this you need 2-Way messaging on your Account.
